This year’s line up is fantastic!
Göteborg Film Festival begins today and we couldn’t be more excited to see this year’s line up of amazing movies. This world-famous event runs from 29 January – 8 February, and this year we can watch it all online! Göteborg in Sweden plays host to this star-studded event and all of the city’s cinemas participate in what is one of the most anticipated events all year for Nordic film professionals. Up to 450 films are screened at Göteborg Film Festival each year, attracting up to 160,000 visitors. Last year 400 of the films that were shown were directed by women, as a part of the event’s drive to even out gender representation in the industry. This year, only one person has been chosen to stay in the Pater Noster lighthouse, which sounds like a pretty unique experience. They will stay there alone for a week, only speaking to another human being once a day to provide feedback on the films, from an isolated lighthouse on Göteborg’s archipelago.
This year, 60 films will be streamed online so that we can watch them, but you can only stream them for 6 hours after the premier. So, it’s best to check film times on the website, as not to miss anything. A digital pass for all of the films will set you back SEK 295 and there are some amazing things to watch this year.
Competing for the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Film this year is Another Round in which Mads Mikkelsen tries to keep his blood alcohol level topped up at all times, with interesting results. Another is Tove, which follows the life of Tove Jansson, the creator of The Moomins, who is here played by Alma Pöysti. Plus, Erik Enge plays a boy with a talent for football in Tigers, which explores the ruthless and sometimes hostile environment of the football industry. There are too many fantastic films at this festival to mention, and you need only purchase tickets on the website to watch them all.
