Pour yourself a drink, turn on the TV and settle under a soft blanket for this year’s International Film Festival.
This week the brilliant Stockholm International Film Festival begins, running from 11-22 November and we couldn’t be more excited because this year, you can watch a good deal of it online! With the Swedish government strongly suggesting that we all avoid public, indoor spaces and crowds of people, businesses and events across the world have been embracing technology and of course, Stockholm has too!
This new initiative has been named Festival on Demand and the website has a full list of films you can view online this November. Those included are from both Scandinavia and further afield. One Of These Days by Bastian Günther focuses on a competition to win a pickup truck in Texas but turns to tragedy. In reality, it explores the cold reality of poverty in Texas and features Joe Cole, famous for his roles in the British TV series Peaky Blinders and Gangs Of London.
Another amazing film that will be watchable online is Identifying Features by Fernanda Valadez, which has already won the Latin Horizon Award at The San Sebastian Film Festival. The film follows two Mexican boys as they head across the border to Arizona, having been promised jobs in the US. Then we hear the voice of one of the boy’s mothers, heart aching as she searches for the two boys from whom nobody has heard since they left for America. Get the tissues out because you are going to cry at this one.
You can buy tickets for the online showings on the website and the films this year are particularly brilliant. You won’t want to miss out on this opportunity to watch the creme de la creme of international films from the comfort of your own home.
